Kanyakumari

My previous post reminded me that I have these photos to share from our trip to Kanyakumari.  Kanyakumari is the southern most tip of the Indian mainland, it is in the state of Tamil Nadu.  Kanyakumari is a confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea hence this point makes the sunsets and sunrises here truly unique and spectacular.  However, one must ensure that they visit at the optimum season.  Unfortunately, on this occasion due to the clouds we couldn’t actually witness the “sun rising from the sea”.

In the photos you can see The Gandhi Memorial on a rock out at sea, and hidden in these photos is the statue of Thiruvalluvar on  a nearby rock because of renovation work.  The Gandhi Memorial can be reached by boat, it was built because it was on this rock that his ashes were kept for public viewing before being immersed.  The architecture is amazing as it is built in a way such that on Gandhi’s birthday (02nd October) the first rays of sun fall on the place where his ashes were kept.

I apologise for the photo quality as this was a few years ago when my best photographic tool was my mobile.

  1. Too bad I never had opportunity to take pictures of this place despite it being my home town. These pictures urges me to visit. I believe it must be some mobile with quality cam, for the pics have turned nice.

    1. Thank you so much for the comment 🙂
I know what you mean… It tends to happen we forget to appreciate or just never get the chance to enjoy what’s actually around us.
It probably is worth a visit… I’m definite that I want to go back in the optimum season 🙂
